What Is a Massage Oil Candle? A Simple Ritual Guide
It looks like a candle. It smells like a candle. Then you deliberately pour it onto your skin.
After extinguishing the flame and checking the temperature first, obviously. We haven’t completely lost the plot.
A massage oil candle transforms from a softly scented candle into a pool of warm, pourable body oil. It’s a little atmospheric, a little indulgent and much easier to use than it first appears.
So, what exactly is a massage oil candle?
Unlike an ordinary home-fragrance candle, a massage oil candle is formulated using wax and oils selected for application to the skin.
Devil’s Bath Parlour Massage Oil Candles are made with natural soy wax and a blend of coconut, sweet almond, apricot and jojoba oils. When the candle is lit, the ingredients melt together to create a warm oil that can be poured in small amounts and massaged into the skin.
The result is part candle, part body-care ritual and an excellent excuse to temporarily ignore everything else.
How to use your Massage Oil Candle
1. Patch test before your first ritual
Before applying the oil more widely, place a small amount of cooled melted oil on the inside of your wrist or elbow.
Wait 24 hours. If no irritation occurs, you may proceed with use.
2. Light the candle
Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from children, pets and anything flammable.
Light the candle and allow it to burn for approximately 10–15 minutes. This gives the wax and oils time to melt and form a small pool.
Never leave the candle unattended while it is burning.
3. Extinguish the flame
Always extinguish the candle before pouring or touching the melted oil.
Allow the oil to cool for approximately one to two minutes. The oil is intended to feel comfortably warm—not hot.
4. Check the temperature
Test a small amount of oil before applying it more widely.
Temperature preferences and skin sensitivity can vary, so never assume the oil is ready simply because the flame has been extinguished.
5. Pour a small amount
Once you have checked the temperature, pour a small amount into your hands.
A little goes a long way, so begin cautiously. You can always return for more if the ritual demands it.
6. Massage into the skin
Massage the warm oil into the skin using slow, circular movements.
You can use the candle for a solo body-care ritual or share the experience with someone else. Begin at the shoulders, hands or feet and apply comfortable pressure.
